Businesses that do not know how to adapt to AI will have a harder time

Interview to Miguel Fernández

The digital transformation sector has been growing exponentially in recent years as technology has advanced. Miguel Fernández Díaz, CEO and founder of Innovation Strategies, analyses the current situation and explains the lines of business they are working on.

You define yourselves as a mission-critical digital services company. What does that mean?

It means that we work at a global level for leading and demanding companies that require fast implementation solutions, carrying out projects that really add value to their business in an intelligent way, and even that we reduce the technological complexity of their systems by always applying the latest technology available.

Your company's values and philosophy are based on 'Behind, Beside, Beyond'. Are these the keys to your success?

Yes, without a doubt. We accompany the customer throughout the entire process, looking for innovative solutions that exceed their expectations. Our open and collaborative nature has meant that many companies from different verticals have relied on us in their digital transformation. And we can say that our relationships with our clients, as well as with our partners, are very long. We have been working with some of them for more than fifteen years.

At Innovation Strategies we do not have a sales team; it is the clients themselves who recommend us to other organisations. This undoubtedly guarantees the success of the more than 1,500 projects we have carried out from our beginnings to the present day.

With more than two decades of experience, Innovation Strategies has become a benchmark in the digital transformation of companies. How has the sector evolved since then?

The sector has obviously grown exponentially as technology has developed. In these two decades the race to learn, discover and innovate has been relentless and this has meant that the degree of adaptability of all the people who form part of Innovation Strategies has been extremely high. In the same way, the relationships we have established with the most advanced technology providers such as Microsoft, Oracle, Dynatrace, Amazon or Google have been key in keeping us on the crest of the wave and consolidating our position as an organisation that operates globally.

The business world is immersed in a process of digitalisation that is essential if it is not to be left behind. How can Innovation Strategies help to achieve this mission and increase the value of companies?

At Innovation Strategies we develop three lines. Digital products, that is, we devise and create, together with the client, the vision of new digital products, their objectives and the user experience, using agile methodologies that produce results in weeks.

The second line is aimed at Data engineering, Analytics and Artifical Intelligence. With this we work on the entire data lifecycle, from ingestion to intelligence, making data accessible and secure at the corporate level, establishing communication channels that go beyond screens and allow the use of voice and personal assistants to consume information.

Finally, Cloud and Perfomance. We enable digital products and systems, regardless of size, to scale and deliver optimal performance at the best possible cost, supporting the business and its objectives. As a partner of the leading cloud providers in the market, we offer hybrid multi-cloud and on-prem solutions to provide the best solution for every problem.

Why is your company different and how is it possible that you are working in so many places around the world from Mallorca?

Since we started we have focused on being proud of what we do, enjoying doing it and learning. We are a company that is truly committed to what we do and our values include commitment, seriousness and the desire to take on new challenges. This combination has led us to execute very interesting projects practically all over the world. Likewise, our team is made up of people who are highly involved, motivated and demanding in what they do. In addition, our clients know that we are not technology vendors, that our involvement with them goes beyond that, we solve their business problems. This philosophy has led us to establish long-lasting relationships with all the parties that make up our ecosystem as a technology company.

During the Bit Meet Forum, you talked about data analytics using voice assistants. Where do you think we are today?

Today we are drowning in a sea of information, of data. Of course, it is humanly impossible to focus on all of it. It is a question of using technology so that the person who has to make a business decision has the right information on time.

The work in analytics and reporting, from our point of view, should be focused on achieving what I talked about in the Bit Meet forum: making the data speak so that people and companies can make the best possible decision.

What business model, taking into account all the digital processes, are companies moving towards in the future?

I think we are all concerned about that. It is obvious that Artificial Intelligence is going to play a very important role in the functioning of companies and that those that do not know how to adapt will find it very difficult in the same way as those that did not know how to adapt with the arrival of the internet. It is possible that a lot of jobs will be destroyed and that, although new high quality jobs will be created, I do not know if it will be enough and will be created with the speed that will be required. Rapid and continuous upgrading together with the adoption of the latest technological advances will be key for companies to remain competent not only in the future, but also now.
